What is a CPA?

A Certified Public Accountant, or CPA, acts as a trusted adviser to both individuals and businesses regarding a variety of financial and tax matters. A Certified Public Accountant is more than just a bookkeeper or a tax preparer, a CPA is a business and financial strategist who can help you and/or your business make important financial decisions using the knowledge of an experienced professional. CPA’s distinguish themselves from other finance professionals by stringent qualification and licensing requirements. In the business world, the CPA designation is one of the most highly-trusted of professional designations. Certified Public Accountants must work hard to obtain their CPA designation through higher education and grueling examination. A CPA is also required to complete mandated CPE courses annually to maintain their license, so they are always informed of the latest changes in tax law, technology, and any other industry-related education. Additionally, a CPA has full representation rights before the IRS.
